Plaque acids that builds up in your mouth as a result of poor oral hygiene practices can gradually start to affect the mineral strength of your tooth enamel. In time a small cavity can form on a contoured surface of a tooth.

If the area of tooth decay isn’t treated in a reasonable amount of time it could spread to compromised a large area of tooth enamel. When a cavity grows too large to be repaired by a simple dental filling Dr. Dr. Jose-Luis Ruiz might recommend treating by replacing the enamel layer with a dental crown.

After numbing the tooth Dr. Dr. Jose-Luis Ruiz will use a special dental drill to remove any remaining traces of tooth enamel. This leaves behind an anchoring abutment formed from the underlying dentin. This will eventually secure the dental crown in your mouth.

Dr. Dr. Jose-Luis Ruiz will then prepare a detailed impression of the abutment and surrounding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab to guide technicians in creating your crown.

You will need to return for a second appointment when the dental crown is ready. This session will be brief as Dr. Dr. Jose-Luis Ruiz cements the dental crown onto the abutment with a strong dental adhesive.
